Overview
Among the inter-Andean valleys, different high Andean lagoons have been formed with meltwater from neighboring glaciers. One of these, known as the Humantay lagoon, formed with meltwater from a snow-capped mountain of the same name, has a special characteristic that has been attracting a large number of visitors, since its bright turquoise waters, added to the imposing image of the snow-capped mountain next to it, provide a unique opportunity to view this wonderful natural landscape.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – humantay – Cusco
After meeting at the agreed upon place in the early morning, we will board our transportation that will take us to the town of Mollepata, approximately 3 hours from Cusco, where we will be able to have breakfast; after that, we will continue the route for 1 more hour to the community of Soraypampa where our hike will begin.
After a short break to get ready we will begin our hike to the Humantay lagoon where we will admire this beautiful turquoise water lagoon which is located 5km away.
The walk will take approximately 2 hours uphill and 2 hours downhill, having the possibility of renting a horse for those who do not wish to walk, the road is difficult and steep, the height causes fatigue and greater exhaustion than usual, and can even produce “Soroche” (altitude sickness), so it is recommended to take precautions.
Once back in the bus, and after having completed the route, we can enjoy a specially prepared lunch to recover our strength after the walk and then begin our return to the city of Cusco where our mobility will return us to the agreed meeting point and thus officially conclude the day’s tour.
